Summary
The astral body, also referred to as the psycho-emotional or “magical” body, serves as the relational interface between an individual and the world. In the context of Therapeutic Energy Healing, it is conceptualized as a “software” construct of human energies that flows around the “hardware” of the physical body. Its primary function is the management of feelings, desires, and needs, all of which are driven by psychological focus and the creation of meaning.
Central to this framework is the concept of “attunement.” Early developmental experiences—specifically the relationship with a mother figure—establish the foundation for how an individual experiences connection (the “good mother”) or disconnection (the “bad mother”). While often categorized under modern psychotherapy, these relational dynamics are rooted in ancient esoteric traditions. Astral healing aims to transition the individual from the helplessness of the “infant self” to the agency of a “magical self,” capable of clearing restrictive emotional pasts and engaging with both human and non-human intelligences to achieve spiritual fulfillment.

Defining the Astral Body
The astral body is characterized not as a static entity, but as a functional force that governs how a person relates to their environment and others.
- The Energy Metaphor: The astral body is described as human energy flowing like software through and around the physical hardware of the body.
- The Psycho-Emotional Core: It is the seat of emotions, needs, and desires. These are not merely biological impulses but are motivated by psychological focus and the pursuit of meaning.
- The Magical Body: In esoteric magical traditions, the astral body is termed the “magical body.” This definition stems from magic being the study and practice of how things are related to each other.
The Relational Framework: From Infancy to Adulthood
The astral body is fundamentally relational. Its development is dictated by the quality of early-life interactions and the meanings derived from them.

The Mother Archetype and Attunement
Psychology identifies the first relationship (the mother or mother substitute) as the blueprint for all future connections.
- Attunement (The Good Mother): When a caregiver responds to an infant’s needs, it creates feelings of safety and being taken care of. This “good mother” experience represents attunement and connection.
- Non-Attunement (The Bad Mother): If the caregiver is tired or inattentive, the infant experiences emotional stress and shock. This “bad mother” experience leads to isolation and emotional crisis.
Adult Differentiation
As individuals mature, they learn to distinguish between these two states:
- Relational Connection: Experiences that feel good and provide soothing or calm.
- Disconnection or Dissociation: Experiences that do not feel good, where needs are discarded or ignored.
Astral Healing and the “Magical Self”
Relational Skills: Adulthood requires the development of skills to create, maintain, and end relationships (e.g., through death or separation) based on these early life imprints.
Astral healing is a process of reclaiming agency over one’s functional relational energy. It seeks to move the individual beyond any binary “good/bad” splits established in infancy.
| Stage | Characteristics |
| Infant Self | Helpless; subjected to the moods of others; victim to past experiences and “good/bad” splits. |
| Magical Self | Developed through healing; reduces “bad” results and increases “good”; finds meaning through creation and relationship. |
| Healing Goal | Clearing restrictive emotional relationships from the past and replacing them with healthy, creative options. |
By awakening the “magical body,” an individual ceases to be a helpless subject of the desires of others or the experiences of the past. Instead, they become an active participant in the “creative process” of their own life.
The Spiritual and Non-Human Dimension
A significant aspect of the astral body is its ability to relate to entities beyond the material world. Astral healing expands the individual’s awareness to include a variety of non-human spirit beings.
- Spirit Beings: The process involves awakening to the presence of nature spirits, elemental beings, animal souls, and angels.
- The Role of the “Daemon”: In this context, a “daemon” is defined as a helper spirit, a guiding force, or a guardian spirit (sometimes equated to a guardian angel).
- Collaborative Healing: Practitioners do not have to perform the work in isolation. Evolved spirit beings are viewed as partners who support the individual and remind them of their full potential.
Concluding Insights
The astral body serves as the “functional force” in all relationships. Through the esoteric work of astral healing, individuals can clear the emotional debris of early non-attunement, as impacting them through their character structure and their relationships. This transformation allows us to build a life of happiness and spiritual fulfillment, defined by the ability to relate effectively to the world, to others, and to the spiritual intelligences that provide guidance and support.
